Full Day Game Drive in Kruger National Park

We depart early morning from Shalati and travel to the Orpen Gate entrance of the Kruger National Park.  This is approximately a 30 minute drive.  During the  course of the day we will utilize less than 10% of the 2 294 kilometres of roads that are open to the public in the Park.  All roads lead somewhere and while enjoying the diversity of the Kruger we will eventually stop for breakfast at one of the Camps.  After breakfast we continue our Game Drive in search of the 147 mammal species, 507 bird species and 114 reptile species you could find inside Kruger.  En route we try to show guests as much as possible and with a bit of luck, we may spot the big cats as well.  Lunch time also offers guests a chance to stretch legs and enjoy the splendor of this magnificent place.  After lunch we will slowly make our way back to Orpen Gate and Shalati.

Panorama Route

After breakfast, guests will depart Shalati and enjoy a scenic drive to visit the wonders that the Panorama Route has to offer.  The Blyderiver Canyon is 60 kilometres long and is the third largest canyon in the world.  There are viewpoints all along the edge of the escarpment; God's Window, The Pinnacle and the Three Rondawels offer excellent views of the Blydedam, the canyon and the Blyderiver 600 metres below.  The Berlin Falls which can be reached by means of a footpath along a river where the water cascades over the sheer cliff into a pool 92 metres below.  The Mac Mac Falls viewpoint offers a spectacular view of this waterfall which was so named after the number of miners from Scottish descent that lived in the area.  The Bourke's Luck Potholes are deep cylindrical holes formed by the action of the sand and rock carried down by the river when in flood.  Visitors can obtain a close view from bridges specially constructed over the potholes.  If time permits, we also visit the historic town of Pilgrims Rest which is now a living national monument.  It was established in 1873 when the first significant gold strike in South Africa was made in the area.

Lunch is not included but a lunch stop will be made at one of the many local restaurants in the area.  Harry;s Pancakes is undoubtedly one of the favourites!
